Meet Rudy Vasquez

Owner & Head Instructor at Vasquez Academy

Rudy Vasquez is the accomplished head instructor and proud owner of Vasquez Academy, a renowned martial arts school situated in the heart of Austin, Texas. With a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and over two decades of experience across an array of martial arts disciplines - including boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, and judo - Rudy brings a wealth of knowledge to his students. His classes, open to kids and adults of all levels and ages, emphasize self-defense, fitness, and above all, enjoyment. As a certified personal trainer and former professional MMA competitor, his expertise extends far beyond the mat.

Rudy's journey into the world of martial arts began at a tender age of 15, when he first stepped into a boxing in his hometown of Laredo, Texas. His passion led him to Austin, where he broadened his skills, training in various martial arts forms such as Muay Thai, wrestling, judo, and ultimately, earning his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under the guidance of Professor Rodrigo Cabral in 2017.

Not one to shy away from competition, Rudy also made his mark in professional MMA, boasting a record of six wins and three losses. He competed in prestigious organizations like Strikeforce, Bellator, and Legacy Fighting Championship. In 2014, he decided to hang up his gloves and devote his time to teaching and coaching.

In 2009, Rudy realized his dream and opened Vasquez Academy. His vision was to create a family-friendly and welcoming environment where anyone could explore and master martial arts. Today, he offers a plethora of programs, including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, MMA, self-defense, and fitness classes, catering to the diverse needs of his students. The Vasquez Academy stands as a testament to Rudy's dedication to martial arts and his commitment to his students.
